How to make beautiful Mexican Tissue Paper Flowers!
The making of Mexican Paper flowers is a very popular craft in Mexico. They are made to decorate churches, day of the dead altars, tombs and celebrations such as weddings and quinceañeras. They are usually made with tissue and/or crepe paper. Sometimes they are lacquered with acrylic varnish to made them more weather resistant.
Paper crafts such as paper flowers were a good way for Mexican’s to have an extra income. Paper Flowers were used to decorate the Churches in times of the year when natural flowers weren’t available.
The craft grew and today paper flowers are still used for decoration, but they are also made for sale in tourist destinations.
To make Mexican paper flowers -
- Layer several colours of tissue paper on top of each other
- Fold the entire stack in a fan fold
- Attach them to a wire pipe cleaner
- If you like shape the ends of the petals
- Fan out the petals into a nice shapes.
You could make lots of the flowers and decorate your bedroom with them or even make a bunch to give as a present!
